Childhood Luang Por Prasit Thavaro's previous name is "Master Prasit Khamprasert. He was born on Saturday, 14 January 1923 or on the 15 th of waxing moon, the first month of the pig year
at Ban Khon, See Phan Don Sub-district, Manophrai District, Jampasak City, Lao. His father is Mr. Thong Khamprasert and his mother is Mrs. Thongchan Khamprasert. He was an
only child of the family.
Education
Luang Por graduated from Grade 4 in 1937 when he was
about 14 years old. In 1942, when he was 19 years old, he could finish the master of Dharma (Nak Tham To).
Government Service
At the end of 1945, the sheriff moved to work as the sheriff of Klaeng Samyan District, Rayong province. In 1946, he put Luang Por in a position of an administrative clerk
working as a special investigator. In addition, he earned 20 Baht per month including 450 Baht as a living cost.
Family Life
Luang Por went back to the factory. However, she came
back from the factory asking for the promise. Luang Por said
that this was a fate (Karma) and he was born to compensate his own fate. Even he tried to avoid her, she still waited for
him. Finally, he had to take her to Nongchak and had an affair with her. Having worked there for 3-4 years, he expanded his business as he could establish himself. Although his situation
was better, he could not save any money because he had to
pay back for debts continually. At that time, Luang Por had
totally five children.
The First Dharma Occurred in 1962
Thus, he advised Luang Por to try being a mindful breathing,
that is, to count in couple. For instance, breathe in one time,
breathe out one time; breathe in two times, breathe out two times; breathe in three times, breathe out three times; breathe in four times, breathe out four times; breathe in five times,
breathe out five times and then practice for 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10,
respectively. Fifteen days later, Luang Por thought that he
even used to think to commit suicide, thus he would sit and practice the meditation exercise to death. When Luang Por
counted continuously, his physical suffering was stronger
and he relieved his breath little by little. Then, Luang Por counted 1 to 10, 1 to 10 repeatedly and he contracted his stomach until his breath was fine. When he saw his breath,
he gained clear comprehension and mindfulness, which could
be compared to a wire and a rope. When the breath was nearly
ended, there would be the obstacle reminding about the death,
which was just an attachment. When deciding absolutely
without thinking anything, as the breath was ended, it was reborn. Luang Por saw a pile of impurities in front of him; thus
this was the first time of Luang Por for passion disgorgement.
Ordainment
In 1969, at the age of 46, Luang Por was ordained for the first time on 24 May 1969 at Wat Nimmanratbamrung, Nongphaikaew Sub-district, Banbueng District, Chonburi Province. His preceptor
was Phra Kru Piboonsangkakij (Prayoon Piyatharo), the Ecclesiastical Commune-Chef of Klong Kliew Sub-district, Wat Kuntheetharn, Ban Huakunjae whereas the First Ordination-Teacher was Superior Savin Indrawaso of Wat Sri-Arun and the Second Ordination-Teacher was Superior Samarn Ratinatharo of Wat Nimmanratbamrung.
The Second Dharma Occurred in 1969
Thus, Luang Por kept practicing. When the Dharma was occurred each time, Luang Por could see a pile of body and the mind would be weaker like when we walked to the low
places. At the last pile, Luang Por considered about distress,
that is, he reached to the equanimity and found the ways to
be free from distress. Then, there would be the dispassion
and boring. Luang Por had considered about the distress in
terms of its causes for 6-7 days because he thought that the
distress was like a fire; when there was a fire, there was a heat. Thus, the heat was like the distress and fire was like the
cause of suffering (Samudaya) or the origin of distress. Thus,
Luang Por realized about it and reached to absorption
concentration, which was called according to the Dharma
that Luang Por gained the excellent Dharma. It was like gunpowder; when it was lighted by fire, it would be emitted
at once. This was the second passion disgorgement of Luang Por.
Emotional Test at Om-Noi
Seven or eight days later, that is, on Saturday Ajarn Boonmee
Methangkoon came to test the emotion. He had asked many
persons and when it was the turn of Luang Por, Luang Por
explained him about the separation of mind and matter comparing them to when we stood in the daylight, our shadow
was the mind but our body was the matter. In other words, this was compared to a banana tree, which had no matters. Then,
Ajarn Boonmee said only the word “Monk” and tested others. Luang Por went back to the temple. Luang Por listened to the radio on Yan Koh Station. Ajarn Boonmee talked
about Lunag Por telling that there were 100-200 monks, who practiced Dharma here. However, there was only
Luang Por, who could see things correctly.
The Move to Tham Yai Prik
Before accepting Kathin, Luang Por went to
Koh Si-Chang and stayed at Wat Chuthathit. At night,
Luang Por had a vision of an old woman inviting him
to stay at Tham Yai Prik. In the morning, after taking a meal, Luang Por surveyed a place. Luang Por went
to the cave. Luang Por found that in the cave, it was quiet, cold and airy, which was appropriate for practice and meditation. Luang Por made a decision to live here at once.
The Test of Nature - The Thunderbolt
One day, it rained while Luang Por was staying in the sunshade, which was offer by the villagers. Luang Por knew that one day the sunshade would be deteriorated;
maybe the nature would like to test him as his mind told him. When Luang Por thought that he was ready to
face the test and carried the handle of sunshade tightly;
there was a sudden thunderbolt. The sunshade of Luang Por was destroyed completely and wet.
The Third Dharma Occurred in 1973
At night, Luang Por felt discouraged because nothing
was occurred although he had studied Dharma for
three years. Thus, Luang Por had no lust to sleep even
it was 9.00 p.m. In general, Luang Por would perform meditation before sleeping.

The Occurrence of Fourth Dharma and Invitation of Brahma
Luang Por smelt a stink and found a puppy lying dead beside the ladder while its body was eaten by worms. Luang Por poked it with his walking stick comparing the puppy as an object of meditation. At night, Luang Por practiced meditation comparing that our body was like the
puppy, which was empty because it was eaten and bitten by worms. As Luang Por thought like that, there was a
sound from his left chest running down to the thigh. This
was the fourth passion disgorgement of Luang Por, which
was called Jetovimutti - the disgorgement of lust and anger.
The Fifth Dharma Occurred in the
Tenth Year of Monkhood
Luang Por kept practicing the Dharma as usual maintaining the Right Effort (Sammavayama),
the Right Mindfulness (Sammasati),
the Right Concentration (Sammasamadhi) including the Noble Eightfold Path (Ariyamagga 8).Luang Por realized automatically about the current Dharma and
asked himself why he had delusion in the mind conditions.
No happiness was same as the happiness of no volitional
activities (thoughts). The mind was elevated to the Three Signs of Being (Trilakkhana); the volitional activities was distinguished.Later, as Luang Por stayed in the cave, he
considered it again with his wisdom and the systematic attention (Yonisomanasikara). When considering, the composition was just like an assumption. Thus, when it was disappeared, the mind would be empty and peaceful,
so we would have wisdom to consider different objects,
which could be occurred and distinguished. As the mind
was empty, we could realize the truth. Even the urine, saliva
or excretion, there were only matter and mind. All senses
and contacts would go to our mind; thus the five objects of sensual enjoyment were deceitful and uncertain. That is, everything external would come to the mind. Thus he considered about the mind that if it turned to be the concentration; one pointednees of mind (Ekaggta), the
wisdom would keep an eye on it closely. Then, this was called the systematic attention (Yonisomanasikara) that could accept the body was just a convention and the mind was not composed of anything……

![]() Development on Mindfulness and Clear Comprehension is
the Path of Development on Wisdom as an Achievement.
If you can liberate yourself from the volitional activities, you will be liberated from thought
and then be freed from spiritual suffering.
1.The cause of suffering : You suffer because the mental volitional activities perceive the external sense-objects (sight, hearing, smelling, tasting and touching).
2. Suffering : Suffering is the result of the attachment you give to those sense-objects once they are perceived by the volitional activities.
3.The path leading to the cessation of suffering : Keep mindfulness and clear comprehension to clearly understand mindfulness and the volitional activities.
4.The cessation of suffering : Meditate in order to reach mindfulness to clearly understand mindfulness and the volitional activities and you will be liberated from suffering
